by: EvanMKenney

Tue Feb 19, 2013 at 23:55:32 PM EST

Ladies and gentlemen of Red Mass Group,

I'm pleased to announce that I've decided to launch a campaign for School Committee in my hometown of Wakefield. Check out www.evankenney.com for more on my platform.

If you have any spare change lying around, I would so greatly appreciate any help you can give me.

Here is the link to donate online: https://secure.piryx.com/donat...

I'll make you all proud!

Go Evan Go! (5.00 / 3)
Evan just told me I can't say that this post is really sweet, but it is. I am so impressed with his dedication to the community, especially as a college freshman when many of his contemporaries don't bother to venture off campus.

I have no doubt that Evan will make us proud. He will educate himself on the issues and take the job seriously. I am really looking forward to working on his campaign, and I hope others in the RMG community will offer him their support as well.

Oh shit ... Evan ... bad idea. School Committee? (5.00 / 1)
Evan, the problem with the School Committee is people will automatically hate your guts.  You can bank on that.  You can have the best intentions and the best plan in the world but there will always be people who will hate you.  Not just disagree with you ... they will HATE your guts.  I learned that from David Whelan, he was a great man.

Anyway, good luck kid, I hope this pep talk helped.

You've got our support! (5.00 / 1)
When I ran when I was 20 in my town of Holliston - it was quite the learning experience! I wish you the best of luck, Evan - i think Andrea's reflections echo the thoughts of many of us here. Let us know how we can help you and your campaign.

Young people running for office is crucial for the Republican party! And School Committee is the perfect place to go. I wish you and Mark Mezzina the best of luck!

Good Luck Evan! (5.00 / 1)
It's great moment when people decide to step up and put themselves out there for their communities!  I support you 100%!

Having said that, are Wakefield's town elections non-partisan?  If they are, I think it would be wise to not wave the R flag out there, as you will turn off a portion of the electorate.  Trust me on this one...

Go get 'em!

John

Good luck, but... (0.00 / 0)
"Calling for Wakefield's fair share of Chapter 70 funding." Really. Good luck with that one. I mean, what are you going to do, take the money from Reading?

"Explaining every vote publicly on Facebook." Every vote? You mean. like why you voted to adjourn? Why you voted to approve the minutes or the vendor warrant? What time should the budget subcommittee meet?

"Supporting athletics and extracurricular programs." You are an athletics supporter? Really? What does that mean? Are you getting rid of user fees, or are you going to come out and cheer on the girls' volleyball team?

"Adapting the classroom to 21st century learning." 21st Century anything is so... last decade. It attained peak popularity as a phrase in the late 1990s.

Get ready for the tough questions, because people will ask for specifics.

Good luck.

See Evan ... Pablo hates you because he thinks your use of "21st Century" is so 1990's (5.00 / 1)

I don't hate Evan (0.00 / 0)
Why would I hate him? I like and admire almost anyone who would seek election to a school committee. I know a little something about running for local office, and I am just giving Evan the same advice and counsel that I would give anyone running for the job. Bear in mind it is free and unsolicited advice, so Evan is free to do with it as he wishes.

I do, however, hate the "21st Century" cliche, which jumped the shark early in the George W. Bush administration.
