Space exploration to purposely avoid gay couples.... For you John Howard...

I thought this article was very interesting and wanted to share it with RMG.  The article is titled "Fancy a trip to Mars dear? A 'tried and tested' male-female partnership in focus for space mission "

The article details the development of the privately funded venture to reach Mars.  The article is subtitled: Research suggests a man and a woman working and living together may be better than two people of the same sex on millionaire's mission to the Red Planet

In addition to charitable and personal donations, Mr Tito said that he expected to raise money from television and media rights. The choice of a mixed crew of one man and one woman would heighten media interest, he said.

Jane Poynter of Paragon Space Development, who is an adviser on the mission, said that the man and the woman would have to be in a stable relationship.

"The idea of a man and woman going on this mission is an important idea. It's important also that they are a tried-and-trusted couple," Dr Poynter said.

"It's also important that they are man and a woman because they represent humanity...and just as important they represent our children," she said.

I am guessing that a trip like this would meet with widespread disgust from the progressive left if funded by the federal government of the United States.  The federal government would not be allowed to send a straight man and a straight woman into space together.  Actually, 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' would probably be the law of the land and space, so to speak.

The research groups that are being used to help with the psychological preparedness of this adventure also stated the following:

The fact that the two crew members will share the same living space for 501 days suggests that the man and woman will have to know each other intimately before the mission.

The feasibility study points out that a man and a woman working and living together may be better than two people of the same sex.

So here is the big $64,000 question.  If it is determined that a man and woman represent 'humanity' and are determined to work better that two people of the same sex - what does that say about a society that allows gay marriage?  Why would it not be true on earth as it is in outer space?  Doesn't this explicitly imply that the concept of gay marriage is a 'flawed' or 'inferior' concept?

I guess I'd lean more toward a man/woman than say a couple of dudes but (0.00 / 0)
I think the best move for humanity would be to send Simple J Malarkey.  But that's just my 2 cents.

Or how about ElectricStrawberry and Simple J Malarkey (0.00 / 0)
We'll be able to hear them argue from space!

If I had my way it'd be me and V3PN ... (0.00 / 0)
Then we'd get Ed Factor and beg him to re-program the guidence system and re-route us to some awesome planet full of hot chicks!

Do we get to wear those awesome spacesuits? (0.00 / 0)
and carry lasers?  I hear there are hot chicks on Mars, is that true?

Just as long as Doctor Smith doesn't show up saying stuff like 'Oh the pain!".

We are headed for a 'Fiscal Cliff' and the country just elected a dope whose motto is 'Forward'.

They don't allow (0.00 / 0)
dishonorable liars in space.
Besides, I wouldn't wanna spend 500 days by myself.

"I acknowledge having racist and classist and sexist feelings of white male superiority." -John Howard

Huh, is that real? She must want some controversy (0.00 / 0)
But to your question, yes those things are true on earth too, that only a man and woman represent humanity, and that the combination is proven to be a stable and lasting and caring one with less strife. But even if that's accepted as true, which it won't be, it's still not enough to make an argument for not allowing any same-sex marriages, though it might be a good basis for choosing the astronaut team (or it might not, who knows). It is enough to say that same-sex couples would unethically have children and so we should not approve or even allow them to make children, and marriage should always approve and allow the couple to conceive children, so that rules out same-sex marriages.

Thanks for conjuring me up V3PN.
