Update on Marian Walsh: New Job has been vacant for 12 years

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

How naive of me.  I thought it couldn't get any worse under Deval Patrick.  I thought we reached the lowest of lows we were going to see under the guvernor.  But the appointment of Marian Walsh to the Assistant Executive Directorship of an agency I didn't even know existed takes the cake.  No the outrageous salary isn't what has me utterly disgusted. I'm used to hacks being paid for do nothing jobs.  What really has me fired up is that the job has been vacant for twelve, that's right twelve, years.  This is absolutely absurd.

The job has been vacant for 12 years. The appointment of Walsh, 54, a Democratic state senator from West Roxbury, was revealed amid news of a $1 billion state deficit while Patrick continued his vacation in Jamaica.

"We're facing a fiscal crisis and he's giving away a $175,000 job," said House Minority Leader Brad Jones (R-North Reading). "This was vacant for several years. Why do we need it now?"

The only bright spot in all of this?  Supposedly according to the Herald the plum position will not affect Marian Walsh's pension, as this alphabet soup agency is quasi-public.  They don't supposedly partake in the state pension system.  I however don't doubt Marian will try to finagle a pension bump somehow.

Deval Patrick sure is NO ORDINARY LEADER!

Every time.. (0.00 / 0)
Every time I start to think, "Ok, this crisis is bigger than usual and he needs to be given a little more benefit of the doubt" I see another one of these stories and it reminds me once again where I live.

I find myself cheering for Therese Murray for standing up to this guy.. "Reform before Revenue is not a slogan."

This tells me he isn't running in '10 (0.00 / 0)
I find it hard to believe he'd be screwing everybody so bad if he wasn't on his way out the door. He's padding the nest of former supporters before he peaces... thats how I read this.

Unbelievable.

"When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." -PJ O'Rourke

I read it the exact same way................ (0.00 / 0)
I think Deval is looking at Tim Cahill and thinking that Cahill is infinitely more competent.  People like Cahill, and Cahill would kick his ass in a primary, which would be embarrassing to Deval Patrick.  Devalue Patrick never stays around very long.  It could be that a four year stint as Governor of Massachusetts is the longest job he ever held.  His M.O. is to step in and cash out.  He did it at Coca Cola, Texaco, Ameriquest and others.  All along the way he picks up a million here and a million there in stock options and payouts.

Employment duration:
Clinton Administration - 1994 - 1997 < 3 years.
Day Berry and Howard Law Firm - 1997 < 1 year.
Texaco - 1997 - 2000 < 3 years.
Coca Cola - 2000 - 2004 < 4 years.
Ameriquest - 2004 - 2006 < 2 years.
Governor of Mexichusetts/Taxachusetts - 2006 - present

After a couple years people realize this 'tool' is a complete waste of time and energy.  He has no skills and no ideas.  An empty suit.......  Bill Clinton wanted him fired and removed from office, which is why he left his job as Asst AG of Civil Rights.

I guarantee he is leaving the Governor's office instead of running for a second term.

Hasn't he checked out already? (0.00 / 0)
It sure does seem like he's paying forward cronies now so that they will take care of him after he's gone.

Long ago, on a sleepy Saturday morning, I heard a WBUR interview with Patrick. At the time, he wasn't even a candidate. He was a nobody -- certainly he had done nothing for MA. And yet, he was getting a lengthy interview on the main liberal radio station in Boston.

I believe his run for Governor was a sham. The campaign was nothing more than a proving ground and learning exercise for the Obama camp. I didn't like that Romney used MA as a stepping stone, but at least he was competent.

Deval's Plans (0.00 / 0)
This Marian Walsh appointment is a sure sign that Deval Patrick's name will not be on a ballot anytime soon. He is neither stupid or a political fool. My guess is that there is a warm seat waiting for him in DC. There is NO over explanation for the Marian Walsh appointment.
