MASSACHUSETTS Straw Poll!

by: Peter Porcupine

Thu Jul 26, 2007 at 00:36:57 AM EDT

As far as I know, there hasn't been another straw poll held here in Mass.  One was held at the Black Rock Country Club in Hingham, sponsored by the GOP-8, a group of eight South Shore towns (pretty much all that RED area on the RMG logo).  Also, Charlie Baker spoke about health care for about a half hour, and Jeff Beatty did a presentation for his Senate campaign.

Only a few candidates had people speak for them - Sen. Bruce Tarr (Senate Minority Leader) for Giuliani, Plymouth County Sheriff Joe McDonough for McCain, Lee Haskins for Fred Thompson (she met him at the fundraiser in Chatham this past weekend - but he has no campaign here) and former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey for Mitt (and she did a SWELL job selling the room!)  Here are the results -

Tied for Zero - Brownback, T. Thompson, Hunter, Ron Paul

One - Gingrich (write-in)

Two - Tancredo and Huckabee

Seven - McCain

Tied with Seventeen Each - Fred Thompson and Giuliani

Thirty-Two - Romney

You might think, well of COURSE. And yet - All the State Committee members there except one and all the elected officials attending were supporting somebody else, even if it is Mass.

This was a real victory for Mitt, and as an aside, for Kerry Healey too, who is now working full time for the campaign.

What other candidates were not listed?

Let's see... (0.00 / 0)
The alphabetical ballot listed:  Brownback, Giuliani, Huckabee, Hunter, McCain, Paul, Romney, Tancredo, F.Thompson and T. Thompson.

There was some muttering that Fred D. shouldn't have been included as he hasn't announced.  Rice wasn't listed either.  But - there was a write-in slot for anybody to use if they wanted, and one Gingrich fan did.

Sorry for the correction... (0.00 / 0)
Joe McDonald is the Plymouth County Sheriff.  Joe McDonough was his demmie predecessor.

As you can see from the time, I posted when I arrived back from Hingham.  I DO know better, so many thanks, Dave.

Don't post when tired....
