Another Big Government Republican

by: Paul Breau

Sat Nov 21, 2009 at 15:06:21 PM EST

The eyes of the nation will soon focus on Massachusetts. We have it in our power to deny Harry Reid a filibuster proof majority. Which is why it's so disappointing that one of our candidates in the upcoming special election is choosing to act more like a Democrat than a Republican. Massachusetts-style big government is the path we should not follow and any Republican that hasn't been in a coma for the last 60 years should know better. So why is Jack E. Robinson looking to out Democrat the Democrats?

The answer. Mr. Robinson has caught bailout fever. He wants to give all public transportation systems and their riders a bailout. From the Herald:

"(The government) put $185 billion into (troubled lender) AIG. That would fund the T for 40 years," Robinson said yesterday. "There is money to be used smartly and intelligently."

Robinson, who is running against state Sen. Scott Brown for the GOP nomination in the race for the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's vacant seat, is suggesting the MBTA bailout as part of a proposal to make all public transportation nationwide free. Robinson aides said there are cities in Washington and Oregon that offer free public transit."

His plan is meeting the typical response. "I think that's awesome," 33-year-old commuter Jason Harris of Boston said. "Free is great.". One would hope that someone who has reached the age of 33 would realize that other Americans would be paying for his "free ride". While Mr. Harris doesn't have the slightest concept of economics, I have no doubt he is one of those smug, more enlightened than thou Democrats that populate the Commonwealth.

We need a Republican that is going to fight tooth and nail against the statist policies of the Obama administration not emulate them. Scott Brown should be our next US Senator.

Dont let them do it to us again!!!!! (0.00 / 0)
Scott Brown is the right choice for our next US Senator and Christy Mihos for our next Governor. These two are proven reformers who will get in there and work for the people of Massachusetts. Charlie Baker is a tool of the Democrats and Jackie Robinson is also a tool of the democrats so we in the GOP get a water down canidate instead of a real republican reformer. You have to admit the liberal democrats know how to get into our party and screw things up for us. lets not let them do that to us again Vote Scott Brown US Senate and Christy Mihos for Governor.

Vote Clifford Blake for Selectman Clinton MA

Wouldn't it have a stimulating effect? (0.00 / 0)
Better public transportation means greater flow of people and money.

Yes, that would also have a stimulating effect on the economy. (0.00 / 0)

Pandering (0.00 / 0)
Jack E. provides many moments of clear and lucid thought, this is not one of them.  Throwing more government money after what has been wastefully spent at the T without meaningful reforms in (a) how the T budgets for current and future projects; (b) pension and health benefits; (c) staffing levels; (d) performance reviews of employees and how to remove those not performing up to standard; (e) real performance targets for service; and (f) cessation of all the political projects that do nothing for service of ridership but add to the mounting debt.

This will take an Executive Branch that is will to stand up to the entrenched interests while reviewing what is going on frequently and not just with special commissions.  This is why we need a strong governor and lt. governor paired with a strong auditor who is not afraid to take on those entrenched interests.

This is why we need to lay out a platform of fiscal responsibility / reality combined with a true focus on helping the people of Massachusetts achieve their highest and greatest potential.  People will listen but we need months of repeating the message to ensure it gets hurt.

We have some good candidates so far and need more to go with committed volunteers to help get out the message.  2010 can be a great year if we focus on policy and message and get past the personality stuff.

Have you read the quote ?? Obviously not ! (5.00 / 1)
Where does he say he would ask for a bailout ? He doesn't, all he says is that that money COULD have been spent intelligently and smarter.

Have you read the quote? (0.00 / 0)
"Robinson, who is running against state Sen.

Try reading the above quote again. It clearly uses the term bailout.

My Mistake, I did not see any "quotation " marks at the start of the quote, but they are at the end. (0.00 / 0)
